Adobe Introduces AI-Powered Image Editing in Photoshop and Firefly
Adobe introduced a new AI-powered image editing assistant in Photoshop and Firefly.
ADBE debuted its AI assistant for Photoshop on March 10, 2026, making it available in public beta on web and mobile platforms. The AI assistant enables users to remove objects, change colors, adjust lighting, add effects, and transform backgrounds through natural language prompts — effectively turning complex multi-step editing workflows into simple text or voice commands.
Alongside the Photoshop AI assistant, Adobe upgraded its Firefly image generation platform with a consolidated Image Editor workspace that bundles Generative Fill, Generative Remove, Generative Expand, Generative Upscale, and Remove Background into a single interface. Firefly now supports over 25 AI models, including Adobe's own commercially trained models alongside third-party options from Google, OpenAI, Runway, and Black Forest Labs. Paid Photoshop subscribers receive unlimited AI generations through April 9, while free users get 20 generations to start.
The launch represents Adobe's most significant AI product update to date and could accelerate subscription growth by lowering the barrier to professional-quality image editing. By integrating AI assistants directly into its flagship creative tools, Adobe aims to retain its dominance in the $13 billion creative software market while fending off competition from emerging AI-native design platforms.
