Amazon in Talks to Buy AI Startup Decart for About $7 Billion After Anthropic Walked Away

Amazon is in talks to acquire Decart, an Israeli-founded AI startup whose software helps developers move AI workloads between chips, for about $7 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported. Anthropic dropped its own pursuit of Decart last month after due diligence. Amazon shares rose 0.4% in overnight trading late Sunday.
AMZN is in talks to acquire Decart, an artificial intelligence startup founded in 2023, in a deal valued at around $7 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday. The Jerusalem Post reported that negotiations are advanced and a deal could be signed soon, but that it has not been finalized. Amazon shares rose 0.4% in overnight trading late Sunday.
Decart's software helps developers switch AI workloads between different chips, and Amazon Web Services is already a strategic customer: according to the Journal, as cited by Calcalist's CTech, AWS gave Decart early access to its Trainium3 accelerators in 2025. That makes the target a fit for Amazon's push to compete with Nvidia in AI infrastructure. The price would be a sharp step up from the nearly $4 billion valuation Decart reached in a $300 million funding round in May, led by Radical Ventures with Nvidia joining as an investor, according to Reuters. If completed, it would surpass the $6.5 billion Amazon paid for MGM in 2022, according to PYMNTS.
The deal also has a backstory. Anthropic explored a roughly $6 billion acquisition of Decart in August and decided not to pursue it after due diligence, Bloomberg News reported, a point Stocktwits flagged in its coverage. Reuters noted that a deal could still slip if talks fall apart or another suitor emerges. Watch for a signed agreement, any regulatory review, and whether Amazon frames the purchase around adoption of its Trainium chips.
