AMD closes at record $633.91, holding above $1 trillion as OpenAI and Oracle MI450 orders build

AMD closed at a record $633.91 on Friday, Oct. 2, up $18.18 or 2.95%, edging past the prior peak set Sept. 25 and keeping its market value above $1 trillion. The chipmaker first crossed the $1 trillion mark on Sept. 21 and has climbed more than 180% in 2026. The rally rests on signed orders, including OpenAI's 6-gigawatt MI450 deployment and Oracle's (ORCL) plan for 50,000 MI450 GPUs, which sharpen AMD's challenge to Nvidia (NVDA).

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) closed at a record $633.91 on Friday, Oct. 2, gaining $18.18, or 2.95%, after trading above $645 intraday. The close edged past the prior record of $630.63 set Sept. 25 and kept the company's market capitalization above $1 trillion. Markets have been closed since, so there is no trading reaction beyond Friday's session.

The trillion-dollar mark itself is two weeks old. AMD first crossed $1 trillion on Sept. 21. Yahoo Finance reported that the shares peaked at $615.99 that day and closed at $609.65, up 8%, for a closing value of $995 billion, making AMD the fourth U.S. chipmaker above $1 trillion after Nvidia (NVDA), Broadcom (AVGO) and Micron (MU). The stock has climbed more than 180% in 2026.

Startup Fortune ties the run to signed contracts rather than sentiment: OpenAI's multi-generation, 6-gigawatt deployment of MI450 accelerators, which came with a warrant for 160 million AMD shares, and Oracle's (ORCL) plan to deploy 50,000 MI450 GPUs starting in Q3 2026. AMD is also shipping Helios, its rack-scale data-center AI system, with a volume ramp expected in the fourth quarter, and TradingKey reports Meta (META) plans to deploy up to 6 gigawatts of Instinct GPUs.

The run has stretched technical readings. On Sept. 22, with the stock at $615.52, TradingKey flagged a relative strength index of 82 and a possible short-term pullback, naming $636.87 and $651.94 as the next levels to clear. 24/7 Wall St. cautioned that back-to-back records could reverse in a broad pullback. Watch whether the shares hold the Sept. 25 high when trading resumes, and for MI450 and Helios shipment updates.
