Anthropic Adds Personal Finance Capability to Claude AI Chatbot

SentiSense · Published · Updated

Anthropic has begun rolling out a Personal Finance feature in Claude that lets U.S. Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers link bank and card accounts through Plaid for read-only analysis of spending, fees and upcoming bills. Claude cannot move, manage or invest money, does not see bank passwords, and Anthropic says these chats are not used for ads or model training. The feature, described as a beta, follows a similar OpenAI launch in May.

Anthropic has added a Personal Finance capability to Claude, letting users link bank and card accounts through Plaid so the assistant can analyze their finances in plain language. Claude can track spending by category, flag unexpected fees, keep an eye on upcoming bills and build charts, calendars and dashboards from the data. It can read account names, types, balances and credit limits, plus up to two years of transactions for bank accounts.

The feature is read-only: Claude can't move, manage or invest money, and it does not see bank passwords. Anthropic says Personal Finance conversations are not used to train its models or to serve ads. Access starts this week for Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the United States, and early coverage describes it as a beta that Anthropic has begun testing. Plaid, the connection layer, links to more than 12,000 financial institutions.

The launch puts Claude into a category OpenAI entered in May, when it added a comparable personal finance capability to ChatGPT. For Anthropic, whose IPO is the subject of intense investor attention, the feature deepens what its consumer subscriptions offer rather than creating a new paid product.

What to watch: whether Anthropic widens access beyond the U.S. or beyond paid tiers, how regulators and consumer groups respond to AI assistants reading bank data, and whether finance tools become a standard feature across consumer chatbots.
