Apple Returns to Bond Market With Seven-Part Offering, Its First Since May 2025

Apple filed a preliminary prospectus for seven series of bonds maturing between 2028 and 2036, its first bond sale since a $4.5 billion deal in May 2025. Bloomberg reported Apple was targeting about $7 billion and drew roughly $31 billion of orders, more than four times the target. Apple said proceeds are for general corporate purposes, potentially including buybacks, dividends, acquisitions and debt repayment.
AAPL filed a preliminary prospectus with the SEC on November 5 for seven series of bonds maturing between 2028 and 2036. The filing did not specify a size, but Bloomberg reported that Apple was targeting approximately $7 billion and that investors had already placed orders of around $31 billion, more than four times the target. Later reports, citing a term sheet, put the final size at $7.5 billion.
It is Apple's first trip to the bond market since May 2025, when it raised $4.5 billion in a four-part sale that drew about $10 billion of orders. Unlike recent megacap borrowers, Apple's filing makes no specific mention of AI: it says proceeds will go to general corporate purposes, potentially including stock buybacks, dividends, acquisitions and debt repayment.
The deal lands in the middle of a heavy run of Big Tech borrowing. Meta raised $15 billion in U.S. bonds followed by roughly $10 billion in euro bonds, Alphabet raised about $6.7 billion in euros, and Microsoft completed a $25 billion sale, its first since 2017. According to Bloomberg, Apple's strong order book let it borrow at lower spreads than Microsoft, Meta and Oracle achieved in their recent deals. It came on a day when the Nasdaq 100 fell more than 6% at one point and Apple shares traded down 1.49%.
What to watch: the definitive pricing terms in Apple's final SEC filing, and whether Apple's cheaper funding widens the gap with AI-heavy peers whose bonds have had to pay up for capital.
