Apple Sees Third Round of Public Betas for Major Software Releases

Apple AAPL released the third public betas of its major fall software updates, including macOS Golden Gate, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and tvOS 27. The macOS beta brings refinements to the Liquid Glass interface, including improved opacity controls and a trimmed-down menu bar.

The more notable change across the iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and visionOS betas is a smarter version of Siri, internally referred to as Siri AI, which combines general world knowledge, personal user data, and on-screen or environmental awareness to hold back-and-forth conversations. It is Apple's clearest public step yet toward the deeper generative-AI assistant it has been promising since its AI strategy reset.

Third betas typically signal that a release is nearing feature-complete status ahead of a September public launch alongside new iPhone hardware. For Apple, shipping a credible AI assistant on schedule matters more to investor sentiment than the incremental interface tweaks, given how far behind rivals like Google's Gemini the company has been perceived to be on generative AI.
