Apple Tells Stores to Repair or Replace Cracked iPhone Duo Screens as UBS Tracks an 89-Day Wait

Apple has sent internal guidance telling Apple Stores and authorized service providers to inspect iPhone Duo units with cracked inner displays and repair or replace them, according to a memo first reported by MacRumors on October 30. There is no recall. UBS Evidence Lab measured an average 89-day wait for new Duo orders across more than 30 markets.
Apple has issued internal guidance to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers on iPhone Duo inner displays cracking along the fold, telling technicians to inspect affected units and repair or replace them under standard service procedures. The memo was first reported by MacRumors on October 30. Apple has not announced a recall or a public repair program, and customers are being routed through normal AppleCare channels.
The guidance follows Apple's October 26 statement that it is "aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units" and that affected owners should contact AppleCare for a replacement. Some buyers who paid more than $2,000 for the foldable reported the screen cracking down the middle within days or even hours of use, and coverage has raised the possibility of a structural hinge problem rather than a simple quality defect. Outside warranty, an inner-screen repair costs $999, according to Apple's support site.
Demand signals are mixed. UBS Evidence Lab measured an average wait of about 89 days for new Duo orders across more than 30 markets, which eased over the past week. UBS analyst David Vogt said the display reports are a concern but not the primary driver of the shorter waits. Waits for the iPhone 18 Pro fell to about five days and Pro Max waits held at about 18 days. Vogt kept his forecast for 2026 iPhone revenue of $252.5 billion, up 20.5%, on 261 million units, and maintained a Neutral rating and $296 price target on AAPL.
Vogt flagged the signal to track: if Pro and Pro Max wait times start rising while Duo waits keep falling, shoppers may be switching away from the foldable or deferring for a second-generation model. Further reports of cracked units, and whether Apple formalizes a repair program, will show whether the issue stays limited to the small number of units Apple described.
