ASML on Track to Become Europe's First Trillion-Dollar Firm Amid AI Chip Boom
Reports suggest ASML is poised to become the first trillion-dollar company in Europe due to an AI chip boom.
ASML Holding, the Dutch monopoly supplier of the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines used to make the world's most advanced chips, has become Europe's most valuable listed company and is now within reach of a milestone no European company has ever hit: a $1 trillion market capitalization. ASML shares closed around €1,540 on July 20, 2026, valuing the company at roughly €592 billion, or about $690 billion, meaning it would need to gain on the order of 40% to 45% to cross the trillion-dollar line.
The renewed optimism follows ASML's second-quarter 2026 results, which beat expectations: net sales of €9.33 billion and net income of €2.92 billion, ahead of the roughly €2.62 billion analysts had modeled. The company raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to a range of €43 billion to €45 billion, citing accelerating demand tied to the AI infrastructure buildout among US hyperscalers, and shares jumped as much as 5% to 6% in Amsterdam trading on the report.
The AI chip boom is the direct driver behind that guidance raise. ASML sold 86 new lithography systems in the second quarter, up from 67 in the first, and said it plans to expand manufacturing capacity by 30% in each of the next two years for both its flagship EUV tools and its deep ultraviolet (DUV) line to keep pace with orders. Intel Foundry became the first customer to ship a commercial logic chip built with ASML's newest High-NA EUV machines, an early proof point for a technology that could underpin a fresh multi-year upgrade cycle across the industry.
Whether ASML actually reaches $1 trillion depends on sustaining that pace. Analysts at firms including Barclays, Susquehanna and Bernstein have floated roughly €2,600 per share, about 49% above current levels, as the kind of move that could get ASML there, while more conservative estimates frame the trillion-dollar mark as a three-to-five-year story rather than an imminent one. Investors could watch bookings momentum in ASML's coming quarterly reports and the pace of High-NA EUV adoption among leading-edge chipmakers such as TSMC, Samsung and Intel as the clearest signals of whether AI-driven demand can carry the stock the rest of the way.
