Autodesk beats on its fiscal Q2 but guides next quarter below consensus and cuts free-cash-flow outlook

Autodesk beat on revenue and adjusted earnings for fiscal Q2 2027 and raised full-year revenue and billings guidance, but guided fiscal Q3 earnings of $3.04 to $3.09 against a $3.14 consensus and cut its full-year free-cash-flow midpoint by $25 million. Shares fell about 5% in extended trading. SentiSense has the stock at $259.61, down 4.1%, with implied volatility at the 99th percentile of its own one-year range.

ADSK reported its fiscal second quarter of fiscal 2027 on Thursday and beat on both lines: revenue of $2.05 billion against a consensus near $2.01 billion, and non-GAAP earnings of $3.30 a share against $3.12. Billings beat consensus by roughly 2% in constant currency and free cash flow came in above Street estimates. On the full year, management raised the revenue guidance midpoint by $135 million and lifted calculated billings guidance to $8.58 billion to $8.65 billion from $8.51 billion to $8.58 billion.

The stock fell anyway, and two lines in the release explain it. Fiscal Q3 adjusted earnings guidance of $3.04 to $3.09 came in below the $3.14 the Street was carrying, and the full-year free-cash-flow midpoint was cut by $25 million against the May forecast. Raising revenue while trimming cash conversion is the combination investors like least, because it reads as growth bought rather than earned. Shares fell more than 5% in extended trading, with one source pinning the move at 5.0% to $257 from a $270.58 prior close.

SentiSense has Autodesk at $259.61, down 4.1%, with a Slightly Bullish score cooling from a 30-day average of 8.1. The options market is the more interesting tell: at-the-money implied volatility of 59% puts Autodesk at an implied-volatility rank of 99 out of 100 for the past year, meaning traders are pricing unusually large moves relative to this stock's own history.

The sell side is not treating the guide as a thesis break. UBS raised its target to $325 from $290 and Guggenheim to $283 from $277, both maintaining Buy, and Guggenheim's was its second raise in about eight days. SentiSense's consensus band is $220.50 low, $314.57 average and $456.00 high across 34 analysts, with 30 buy and 6 hold and no sells across 36 rated. What to watch is whether the free-cash-flow cut is a one-quarter timing issue or the start of a trend, since that is the line the entire Buy-side case rests on.
