Berkshire Hathaway's $348 Billion Portfolio Heavily Invests in Apple and Alphabet for AI
Berkshire Hathaway's CEO Greg Abel has significantly concentrated the company's stock portfolio in Apple and Alphabet, with both making up nearly 30% of its $348 billion holdings. The investment reflects confidence in their AI-driven tech abilities, but raises concerns over increased portfolio risk if these companies encounter struggles or underperform.
Under new chief executive Greg Abel, AAPL and GOOGL now account for close to 30% of Berkshire Hathaway's roughly $348 billion equity portfolio, a concentration that makes BRK.B one of the more levered large-cap proxies on the AI trade . Apple remains the single largest position at about 20.6% of the book, with Alphabet's Class A shares at roughly 7% and Class C adding another 1.8%.
The Alphabet build is the more consequential change. Berkshire more than tripled its position, participating in a $10 billion private placement that formed part of Alphabet's $80 billion equity capital raise to fund AI infrastructure . Berkshire first opened the Alphabet position in the third quarter of 2025 and added again in the first quarter of 2026, so this is an accumulation over several quarters rather than a single opportunistic entry.
The Apple decision is a change by omission. Abel's first 13F as CEO showed no trim to the Apple stake, halting a multi-quarter sell-down that Warren Buffett had presided over. Read together, the two moves suggest the new management team is willing to hold and extend concentrated technology exposure rather than continue rotating out of it, a departure from the direction of travel in Buffett's final years at the helm.
The risk is the arithmetic of that concentration. With nearly a third of the portfolio in two names whose valuations rest on the same AI capital-spending cycle, a drawdown in that theme would hit both positions together rather than offsetting. Investors watching Berkshire should track whether subsequent 13F filings show the Alphabet stake continuing to grow or stabilizing near current weight.
