CME Group Posts Record June Trading Volume and Second-Best Q2 Ever

CME Group reported a record June trading volume of 30.6M contracts and a second-best Q2 volume. The strong results mark a significant increase in trading activity for the company.

CME Group posted a record June average daily volume of 30.6 million contracts, up 19% year-over-year, capping a quarter that ranked as the exchange operator's second-best Q2 on record at 29.8 million contracts.

The growth was broad-based across asset classes rather than concentrated in a single product line. Equity index average daily volume surged 54% to a record 10.1 million contracts, driven by a record 3.2 million contracts in Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 futures and a 39% jump in Micro E-mini S&P 500 futures to 1.5 million contracts. Interest rate volume rose 17% to 13.6 million contracts, while cryptocurrency volume jumped 76% to 334,000 contracts, representing roughly $10.7 billion in notional value.

The diversification across equity index, rates and crypto products suggests the volume gains reflect broader market activity and hedging demand rather than a one-off spike in a single segment. Analysts will be watching whether this momentum carries into the second half of the year, particularly given how much of the equity index growth was driven by newer micro-sized contracts that appeal to a wider base of traders.
