Danaher Beats Q3 Profit Estimates and Raises 2026 EPS Outlook as Shares Reverse Early Losses
SentiSense · Published · Updated
Danaher reported third-quarter adjusted EPS of $2.11, above the $1.92 consensus, on revenue of $6.55 billion, up 8.5% but slightly below the $6.56 billion estimate. Core revenue grew 3.0%, or 5.5% excluding respiratory testing, and the company raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $8.57 to $8.62 from $8.45 to $8.60. Shares fell about 3.7% in premarket trading, then traded up about 3% by early afternoon in CEO Julie Sawyer Montgomery's first reported quarter.
DHR reported third-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings of $2.11 per share on October 21, topping the $1.92 consensus by $0.19. Revenue rose 8.5% year over year to $6.55 billion, according to the company's release, but landed just under the $6.56 billion analysts expected. GAAP earnings were $1.71 per diluted share, up 34.5% from a year earlier.
The organic picture depends on how respiratory testing is treated. Core revenue, which excludes acquisitions and currency, grew 3.0%, while core revenue excluding respiratory grew 5.5%, up from 4.5% in the second quarter. Respiratory revenue of about $350 million was a headwind of roughly 250 basis points as flu testing shrinks, the point one widely shared post made in arguing the recovery is real. By segment, Biotechnology core revenue grew 5.0%, Life Sciences 4.5% and Diagnostics 0.5%, or 7.0% in Diagnostics excluding respiratory. Biotechnology revenue of $1.80 billion missed the $1.87 billion consensus, according to Seeking Alpha.
Management raised full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $8.57 to $8.62 from $8.45 to $8.60, above the $8.51 consensus Seeking Alpha cited before the report. For the fourth quarter it guided core revenue excluding respiratory up 4% to 5%, with respiratory a roughly 150 basis point drag. Adjusted operating margin expanded 110 basis points to 29% and free cash flow was $1.6 billion. It was the first earnings report for CEO Julie Sawyer Montgomery, who used the call to put market-share gains at the center of how she wants the company judged.
The stock swung through the session. Shares fell 3.67% to $216 in premarket trading from a $224.24 close, according to an Investing.com call report, then reversed to trade at $231.00, up about 3%, at 1:26 p.m. ET in SentiSense price data. Analysts are broadly constructive: SentiSense consensus data shows 21 buy and 4 hold ratings with an average target of $244.14, and TD Cowen lifted its target to $255 from $236 on October 13. Investors will watch whether core growth excluding respiratory holds in the 4% to 5% range in the fourth quarter and whether Biotechnology revenue closes its gap with expectations.
