GE HealthCare's Photonova Spectra scanner earns CE Mark, expanding global availability

GE HealthCare confirmed that its Photonova™ Spectra imaging system has received CE Mark certification, a regulatory milestone that clears the way for sales across the European Economic Area and other markets that recognize CE compliance.

This CE Mark is the third major regulatory clearance for Photonova Spectra, not the first. The system already received U.S. FDA 510(k) clearance and Japanese regulatory approval in March 2026, roughly five months before this announcement, per BioSpace and StockTitan wire reports. That sequencing matters: U.S. and Japanese hospitals already have a path to adopt the scanner, and this CE Mark extends that same access to Europe.

Photonova Spectra is a photon-counting CT system built on GE HealthCare's Deep Silicon detector technology. The company says it can process up to 50 times more data than its own prior premium scanner, the Revolution Apex Elite, rather than conventional CT scanners broadly. GE HealthCare has described the product as the result of more than $5 billion in innovation investment.

With three major regulatory approvals now in hand across the U.S., Japan, and the EU, GE HealthCare is positioned to pursue broader hospital partnerships and international distribution for the scanner. Analysts will likely watch adoption rates in each region, and how the added data throughput translates into diagnostic workflow changes, as indicators of the product's commercial traction.
