Google Tests Flipkart Checkout Handoff and Business Calling in Gemini, Adds 97-Language Enterprise Avatar

Google (GOOGL) is extending Gemini from answering questions toward completing tasks, through a set of limited trials. In India, it is testing a Buy button on select Flipkart product results inside Gemini and AI Mode, covering smartphones, electronics and mobile accessories, with a wider rollout planned for October ahead of the festive shopping season. The purchase is not completed inside Gemini: users are redirected to a Flipkart-branded checkout. Google invested around $350 million in Flipkart in 2024, and the pilot ties into its Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard for AI agents to transact with retailers.

In the US, a Call for Me feature lets Gemini phone businesses to book reservations, reschedule appointments or check product availability. It is starting small: the beta is limited to Pixel 11 owners who pay for a Gemini subscription and requires the beta version of Google's Phone app. Calls come from the user's own number, Gemini discloses it is an AI at the start, and the user sees a live transcript and can take over at any time.

On the enterprise side, Google's Gemini 3.8 Live added a Live Avatar for Gemini Enterprise that lip-syncs in 97 languages, rolling out from September 24 with early adopters including Cox Automotive and Salesforce. This is a business-customer feature for uses such as customer support, not a consumer app launch.
