Google Unveils Pixel 11 Series Powered by Gemini and Tensor G6 Chipset

Google used its Made by Google event in New York on August 12 to launch the Pixel 11 line, built around the Tensor G6 chipset and Gemini . The lineup is the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold, alongside the Pixel Watch 5 and a Pixel Tag tracker.

Tensor G6 is the substantive change. Google claims 50% more TPU compute than the previous generation, with on-device AI running up to 3.5 times faster and up to 3.5 times more energy efficient. That combination is what makes larger Gemini models practical to run locally rather than round-tripping to a data center, which is the axis Google is competing on.

Pricing starts at $899 for the Pixel 11 with 256GB, and $399 for the Pixel Watch 5, which adds Gemini capabilities, a Health Guardian feature, and improved GPS accuracy. Pre-orders opened at announcement, with devices shipping August 20. Google also refreshed the design of several Pixel apps.

For GOOGL hardware remains a small revenue line, so the number to watch is not Pixel unit volume. It is whether on-device inference lowers Google's cost to serve Gemini's billion monthly users, and whether Pixel functions as the reference platform that pushes those features into the much larger Android install base. The efficiency claim, if it holds outside benchmarks, is worth more to the P&L than the handset margin.
