Johnson & Johnson Presents Javelin and Impella Heart-Device Data at TCT 2026

Johnson & Johnson MedTech reported 93.6% technical success for its investigational Shockwave Javelin catheter in the 158-patient FORWARD CAD trial and presented three Impella heart-pump analyses covering 1,379 high-risk PCI patients at TCT 2026. The Impella mortality figures are observational and compared across studies with the CHIP-BCIS3 trial rather than tested head to head.

JNJ used the TCT 2026 cardiology meeting in San Diego to present new data from two of its heart-device franchises. The headline result came from the FORWARD CAD trial of the Shockwave Javelin catheter, an investigational device for heavily calcified coronary blockages: across 158 patients at 28 U.S. and U.K. sites, it achieved 93.6% technical success and 93.4% freedom from major adverse cardiac events through 30 days, exceeding both pre-specified performance goals. Reports of a "94% success rate" refer to that technical-success endpoint.

J&J also presented three analyses of its Impella heart pump in 1,379 high-risk PCI patients. In a 522-patient U.S. registry, cardiovascular mortality at discharge was 3.4%, which J&J compared with about 8% in the CHIP-BCIS3 trial; a 578-patient PROTECT III subgroup showed 4.7% in-hospital all-cause mortality. These are observational, cross-study comparisons without a randomized control, and in CHIP-BCIS3 itself standard care was favored on the primary endpoint. The randomized PROTECT IV results are expected in 2027.

Separately, Simply Wall St highlighted recent oncology data, including a 77% confirmed response rate for subcutaneous amivantamab in non-HPV head and neck cancer in the OrigAMI 4 study, while noting the data do not on their own change the investment picture.

What to watch: an FDA filing path for Javelin, and the PROTECT IV readout, which will be the first randomized test of whether Impella's registry results hold up. JNJ closed Friday at $273.20, down 0.73%.
