Lumentum Shares Soar on Q4 Earnings Beat and Elevated AI Demand Outlook
Lumentum's Q4 earnings report showed revenue doubling to $1.01 billion, driven by strong AI demand. The company raised its Q1 revenue target to $1.25 billion and saw its operating margin approach 40%. These developments sent Lumentum's stock price surging.
LITE reported fiscal Q4 revenue of $1.01 billion, up 109% year over year, and adjusted earnings of $3.23 per share against consensus near $2.95. It was the eighth consecutive quarter of top-line growth and the third straight quarter of sequential growth above 20%, a cadence that reflects how quickly optical interconnect has become a bottleneck in AI data center buildouts rather than a commodity component.
The mix is where the leverage shows up. Lumentum recorded record 800G transceiver shipments and began early production of 1.6T modules, while non-GAAP gross margin crossed 50% ahead of the company's own schedule. Guidance extends the trend: management set fiscal Q1 2027 revenue at $1.225 billion to $1.275 billion with non-GAAP operating margin of 39.5% to 40.5% and diluted EPS of $4.05 to $4.35.
Shares rose sharply on the print, trading near $939 and adding roughly 14% , extending a rally that has taken the stock close to the top of its 52-week range. At least one analyst trimmed a price target on valuation grounds even while acknowledging the demand backdrop, which is the central tension in the name: the operating results are accelerating, and so is the multiple investors are paying for them.
What to watch: whether 1.6T module production ramps on schedule, whether gross margin holds above 50% as volume mix shifts, and the concentration of revenue among a small number of hyperscale customers. Optical demand tracks data center capital expenditure closely, so any deceleration in cloud capex guidance would show up in Lumentum's order book before it shows up in its revenue.
