Meta launches Muse Wonder AI models behind paid tiers, claims frontier performance

Meta on Monday launched Muse Wonder and the larger Muse Wonder Full, models it says can compete with frontier systems from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google on certain benchmarks. Access in the Muse agent app requires a $20 or $100 monthly subscription, and Wonder Full is limited to Muse Code subscribers on $50 or $200 plans. Meta shares closed up about 3.4% on a day that also brought Sensor Tower data showing 73% next-day retention for the Muse agent.
META launched two new AI models on Monday, Muse Wonder and the larger Muse Wonder Full, and says they bring the company to the frontier of AI development. Meta claims the family can take on Anthropic's Fable 5.1, OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra and Google's Gemini 4 Argon in certain benchmarks, comparisons drawn from Meta's own testing rather than independent evaluations. CEO Mark Zuckerberg called Muse Wonder "a much larger and more advanced class of models that brings us to the frontier", and in a Financial Times interview he rejected calls for Meta to slow its AI push.
The models are not free. Users of the Muse personal agent app need a $20 or $100 monthly subscription to use Muse Wonder, and Wonder Full is available only to developers on the Muse Code agent's $50 or $200 monthly plans. Wonder can also be reached through the Meta Model API; Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang said API access will cost more than the standard subscriptions but be priced "meaningfully below" leading models from OpenAI and Anthropic. The launch is Meta's clearest attempt yet to build AI revenue outside its advertising business, after an investment drive that included $14 billion in Scale AI.
The release lands as investors weigh early adoption of the Muse agent app, which Meta launched in September. Sensor Tower data reported by Yahoo Finance on Monday showed Muse brings back 73% of new users the day after install, almost twice ChatGPT's rate, though ChatGPT pulls ahead by day eight or nine; Similarweb put Muse daily active users at 2.182 million on Oct. 5. Meta shares closed up about 3.4% on the day, per SentiSense market data. Not every signal is positive: one market summary noted that Muse download growth is slowing and longer-run retention trails ChatGPT, and 24/7 Wall St. reported that major shopping sites have begun blocking AI agents, which limits the tasks Muse can complete.
What to watch: independent benchmark results for Wonder and Wonder Full, subscription uptake in the Muse app, and Meta's plan to power the Muse agent with Wonder, starting with subscribers, for which it has given no timeline. Any disclosure of Muse revenue would be the first hard test of whether paid AI tiers can matter next to Meta's ad business.
