Meta Unveils 'Muse Code' AI Coding Service, Expands Ambitious AI Vision

Meta has launched its paid AI coding service 'Muse Code' and announced plans to roll out open-source AI models. Mark Zuckerberg published a 6,500-word manifesto outlining his vision for 'superintelligent' AI technology. Meta aims to make AI accessible to everyone and invest $145 billion in AI projects.

Meta launched Muse Code on August 5, a terminal-based AI coding agent for macOS and Linux, currently in beta. Powered by the new Muse Spark 1.2 model, Muse Code plans, writes and checks code changes across large repositories from a single install command, trained with substantially more compute to improve debugging and codebase comprehension .

The launch puts META squarely into the agentic coding market alongside OpenAI's Codex and Anthropic's Claude Code, an increasingly crowded field that also includes Microsoft-owned (MSFT) GitHub Copilot. Meta is competing partly on price rather than a free tier: developers choose between a standard tier and a cheaper "contributor" tier that trades lower token costs for allowing Meta to train on their prompts and completions.

The coding tool launch preceded a separate move: on August 10, Zuckerberg published a 6,500-word essay titled "The Future Is for Everyone," laying out his vision for "personal superintelligence," AI agents he says could work on a user's behalf across education, health and work . The essay frames superintelligence as an invention tool meant to boost individual productivity rather than automate jobs away, and ties into Meta's roughly $145 billion 2026 capital expenditure plan, mostly for AI data centers, alongside continued open-weight model releases.

Investors should watch developer adoption of Muse Code against entrenched rivals, and whether Meta's capex ramp translates into measurable AI-driven revenue rather than just infrastructure buildout.
