Meta Unveils New Customizable Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Starting at $499

Meta has released two new Ray-Ban prescription smart glasses with customizable features. The 'Gen 2' glasses, starting at $499, come with swappable nosepads and adjustable temple tips. They are compatible with a wider variety of prescription lenses.

META and EssilorLuxottica have unveiled two new Ray-Ban smart glasses models, the Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics, starting at $499 per pair. The new frames are designed specifically for prescription lens wearers, a segment that represents roughly 75% of the adult population and was largely underserved by earlier smart glasses releases. The glasses feature slimmer frames, swappable nosepads, and adjustable temple tips for improved fit.

The launch expands Meta's wearable hardware strategy, which has seen the Ray-Ban Meta line become a breakout hit since its 2023 debut. New features include AI-powered translation support for Japanese, Mandarin, and Arabic, as well as nutrition tracking via Meta AI. Both models support progressive and transition lenses, though prescription lenses are sold separately and can add $200-$300 to the total cost.

The glasses will be available at U.S. optical retailers starting April 14, with select international markets to follow. For investors, the prescription-compatible lineup could significantly expand Meta's addressable market in wearables, a category the company views as central to its AR/VR hardware roadmap ahead of the anticipated Orion AR glasses launch.
