Microsoft Partnerships with S&P Global and Others for AI Integration

Microsoft 365 Copilot integrates S&P Global data and WISE from Paychex, expanding its AI capabilities. Partnerships with S&P Global enhance Microsoft's AI offering with industry insights.

S&P Global announced on August 12 an expanded collaboration with Microsoft that brings its Essential Intelligence data and analytics into Microsoft 365 Copilot. The integration runs through the S&P Global AI Data Portal using Kensho's Deterministic Retrieval, an LLM-ready API, which is the technically interesting part: it returns cited, traceable source attribution inside Copilot workflows rather than model-generated summaries of licensed data. The arrangement builds on a commodities data integration the two companies announced in April 2025. No financial terms were disclosed.

Separately, Paychex said on August 3 that its WISE engine, for Workforce Intelligence Strengthened by Expertise, is now embedded in Microsoft 365 Copilot and Teams. WISE surfaces headcount, turnover, and benefits-utilization data along with compliance and deadline guidance directly in Copilot and Teams, drawing on the SurePayroll, Paychex Flex, and Paycor platforms. Paychex describes Microsoft as the first partner in a channel-agnostic ecosystem strategy.

The pattern is what matters for MSFT. Copilot is being positioned as the retrieval surface that authoritative data vendors plug into, rather than as a model that competes with them. Traceable attribution is the mechanism that makes licensed financial and workforce data usable in a regulated enterprise setting, where an uncited answer is unusable regardless of accuracy.

For SPGI and PAYX the question is whether distribution through Copilot expands seat-based demand for their data or gradually disintermediates their own interfaces. Neither disclosed terms, so the economics are unobservable for now. Watch whether either reports Copilot-attributed revenue in coming quarters.
