Mistral secures multi-billion funding, valuation tops $24 billion as Samsung leads round

Mistral AI closed a Samsung-led Series D of roughly €3 billion at a post-money valuation above €21 billion, up from about €11.7 billion a year earlier. Widely circulated dollar figures between $24 billion and $31 billion are conversions of the same euro round rather than separate raises. The company is targeting annual recurring revenue above $1 billion this year.
Mistral AI has closed a Samsung-led Series D of roughly €3 billion, valuing the French model developer at more than €21 billion post-money. That is up from about €11.7 billion a year earlier, close to a doubling in twelve months, and it makes Mistral the most highly valued AI company headquartered in Europe.
One point of care on the number: the round has been reported in both euros and dollars, and the dollar figures in circulation range from roughly $24 billion to $31 billion depending on the conversion applied. The company-disclosed figure is the euro one, "more than €21 billion," and that is the number to anchor on. Reports describing a separate $3.5 billion raise are converting the same €3 billion round, not describing a second injection of capital.
Samsung leading the round is the strategically interesting part. It gives Mistral a distribution partner with hardware reach rather than another purely financial backer, which matters for a company whose commercial argument is enterprise and on-premise deployment rather than consumer scale. ASML is an existing investor from the prior round and a customer applying Mistral models inside its own manufacturing, but that relationship is separate from the Samsung partnership and predates it.
Mistral has said it is targeting annual recurring revenue above $1 billion this year. What to watch: whether that ARR target is met, whether the Samsung relationship produces a named deployment rather than a headline, and how the European sovereignty argument holds up as the US labs price aggressively into the same enterprise accounts.
