Netflix Acquires Ben Affleck's AI Startup for $587 Million

NFLX paid $587 million in cash for InterPositive, the artificial intelligence startup founded by Ben Affleck, according to a federal securities filing that confirms a price previously reported only as an estimate. The disclosure closes the gap between the roughly $600 million figure that circulated when the deal was announced and the actual consideration Netflix booked, and it establishes that the transaction was an all-cash purchase rather than a structure weighted toward performance earnouts.

InterPositive, which Affleck founded in 2022, builds AI tooling aimed at post-production rather than at generating finished content. Its software trains a model specific to an individual production and then applies it downstream in workflows such as color grading, mixing, and continuity correction. That focus matters for how the acquisition should be read: Netflix is buying cost structure and throughput in the part of the pipeline where a title's budget is finalized, not a synthetic-content engine. Affleck has joined the company as a senior adviser and continues to work on the technology.

The deal closed in March, so the July filing is a valuation datapoint rather than a fresh catalyst, and the terms of Affleck's personal compensation package remain undisclosed. For investors the open question is whether Netflix discloses any margin contribution from production tooling in upcoming quarters, or whether the spend stays buried in content amortization. A $587 million cash outlay is modest against Netflix's content budget, but it sets a public benchmark for what a major streamer will pay for production-side AI, which could reprice similar assets across the industry.
