Perplexity Expands Portable Computer AI Agent to Windows RTX PCs

SentiSense · Published · Updated

Perplexity's Portable Computer AI agent, which launched on Linux and Nvidia's DGX Spark hardware in August, is now available on Windows PCs with high-end Nvidia GeForce RTX or RTX PRO GPUs, keeping sensitive tasks on-device. Separately, NowSecure found that 24% of mobile apps it assessed could expose functionality to iOS 27's agentic Siri, Broadcom's VMware Private AI Cloud platform (announced August 31) aims to let enterprises run AI workloads on-premises, and Collective launched Compass, an AI tool for wealth advisors managing clients' private-company equity holdings.

Perplexity's "Portable Computer" AI agent is now available on Windows PCs equipped with Nvidia GeForce RTX or RTX PRO graphics cards carrying at least 24GB of VRAM, according to Nvidia's own blog post. The agent already ran on Linux and Nvidia's DGX Spark hardware since its original launch on August 25, 2026, so the Windows release is an expansion of Portable Computer to a new operating system rather than the technology's first appearance on consumer hardware.

The Windows version simplifies setup with a local model, such as Qwen 3.8 27B, that is post-trained to work with Perplexity's agent. Sensitive information stays on the device, and work completed locally doesn't consume Perplexity Computer credits, with the agent connecting to services including Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive and Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack and GitHub. Nvidia says DGX Station support is expected soon.

Elsewhere, mobile security firm NowSecure reported that 24% of the apps it assessed between June and August contain functionality that could be exposed to iOS 27's upcoming agentic Siri, a potential new attack surface for AI agents acting on a user's behalf. Broadcom's VMware also introduced Private AI Cloud, a private-cloud platform built on VMware Cloud Foundation 9 that lets enterprises run more than 150 open source and commercial models on-premises; the platform was announced on August 31, 2026 at VMware Explore, not as new same-day news. And Collective, the company behind SharesPost and Nasdaq Private Market, launched Compass, an AI tool that helps wealth advisors research and plan around clients' concentrated private-company stock holdings, rather than a deal-sourcing platform for private equity or venture firms.

Taken together, the items point to AI agents moving further onto local hardware and into enterprise infrastructure, alongside new security and product-positioning questions that come with that shift. Investors could watch adoption of Perplexity's Windows rollout among RTX GPU owners, how iOS 27's agentic Siri features change app-security practices, and enterprise uptake of on-premises AI platforms like VMware Private AI Cloud.
