Procter & Gamble reported fiscal Q1 2027 net sales of $23.28 billion, up 4%, and core EPS of $2.00, beating the $1.89 consensus. It raised its all-in sales growth outlook to 2% to 4% to reflect the Thorne acquisition, kept organic growth at 1% to 3% and held core EPS guidance at $6.89 to $7.11. Shares rose as much as 6.2% to an eight-month high.

PG reported fiscal first-quarter 2027 net sales of $23.28 billion, up 4% from a year earlier, and core earnings of $2.00 per share, $0.11 above the $1.89 consensus. Organic sales rose 4%, driven by a 2% gain in volume and a 1% lift from favorable mix, with fabric and home care, beauty and grooming each growing 5% organically.

The stock rose more than 2% before the open and kept climbing, advancing as much as 6.2% to $166.55, its highest level since February 27. It closed up about 5.6%. Volume-led growth is what investors have wanted from consumer staples after years of growth driven mostly by price increases.

Margins tell a more cautious story. Gross margin fell to 49.8% from 51.4% on higher commodity costs and product reinvestment, and operating margin slipped to 25.5% from 26.2%. The company raised its all-in sales growth forecast to 2% to 4%, but that reflects the Thorne acquisition closing on October 1; organic growth guidance stayed at 1% to 3%. Core EPS guidance of $6.89 to $7.11 was unchanged and sits below the $7.39 analysts expected, weighed down by about $1.4 billion after tax of commodity cost headwinds plus higher interest expense, which together amount to $0.79 per share.

P&G returned $3.9 billion to shareholders in the quarter and expects over $10 billion of dividends and about $5 billion of buybacks in fiscal 2027. CEO Shailesh Jejurikar said the strong start keeps the company on track to deliver within its guidance ranges. The next quarters will show whether volume growth can hold while commodity costs squeeze margins.
