Rigetti Q2 Revenue Jumps 183% to $5.1M as Federal Quantum Funding Backs Buildout
Rigetti Computing issued earnings results, meeting expectations. The company initiated a $2 billion quantum initiative which is driving growth and fueling a rally. The stock price is trading at $25.50.
RGTI reported second-quarter revenue of $5.1 million, up 183% year over year, driven by Novera QPU sales and on-premises system deployments. Gross margin improved to 43% from 31% a year earlier, but the GAAP net loss widened to $52.6 million as research spending accelerated, and the company closed the quarter with $541.3 million in cash and investments.
The $2 billion figure attached to this story belongs to Washington, not to Rigetti. The federal quantum initiative announced in May commits roughly $2 billion across nine domestic quantum companies, and Rigetti's share is a letter of intent with the Department of Commerce for up to $100 million over three years to advance superconducting qubit scaling. That distinction matters for modeling: the award is a partial offset to R&D expense over three years, not incoming revenue and not a program Rigetti controls.
What the balance sheet buys is time. With $541 million against a quarterly operating loss in the high twenty-millions, Rigetti can fund the roadmap toward its Lyra system, slated for late 2026, without an immediate financing. The variables to watch are system deliveries converting into repeat revenue rather than one-off sales, and whether the Commerce letter of intent converts into a definitive award.
