Rivian produced 19,751 vehicles and delivered 19,248 in the third quarter, ahead of a Visible Alpha consensus of 18,001 deliveries, and reaffirmed its 2026 delivery guidance of 65,000 to 70,000 vehicles. The Verge tied the jump to the more affordable R2. Shares rose at the open on October 2 but closed down 3.12% at $14.30 as attention shifted to the unchanged full-year range.

RIVN produced 19,751 vehicles at its Normal, Illinois plant and delivered 19,248 in the quarter ended September 30, the company said on October 2, and reaffirmed its full-year 2026 delivery guidance of 65,000 to 70,000 vehicles. The Verge put the year-over-year gains at 85% for production and 45% for deliveries, and credited early traction for the more affordable R2.

The quarter topped Wall Street's forecasts. Investing.com cited a Visible Alpha consensus of 18,001 deliveries, while Quartz, citing CNBC and FactSet, put the estimate at 18,000. Finimize called it a record quarter for deliveries, which have climbed from 10,365 in the first quarter and 12,194 in the second, per Quartz. Rivian's own release was more measured, describing the results only as "in line with Rivian's outlook."

The stock did not hold its early gain. Shares jumped at the open but closed at $14.30, down 3.12%, on volume of 60.9 million shares, about double the three-month average, according to The Motley Fool. Coverage pointed to the unchanged guidance: Finimize noted the analyst average for 2026 deliveries of 66,685 already sat inside the range, so a single-quarter beat did little to change the full-year picture.

The fourth quarter now carries the weight. With 41,807 vehicles delivered through September, Rivian needs more than 28,000 deliveries in the final quarter to reach the top of its range and about 23,000 to reach the bottom. The company reports third-quarter financial results on October 29 after the close, where the pace of the R2 ramp and margins are likely to be the focus.
