Take-Two subpoenas Microsoft and Discord to unmask GTA 6 leaker as stock holds near $239
Take-Two Interactive filed DMCA subpoenas in the Southern District of New York on August 20 demanding that Microsoft and Discord identify the person behind the 'CyberLeek' persona responsible for six straight days of GTA 6 gameplay leaks. The filings seek device identifiers, IP addresses and linked accounts for everyone active in three named Discord servers since June 1, with a September 4 deadline. Take-Two shares held near $239.
TTWO escalated its response to a run of Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay leaks by filing DMCA subpoenas in the Southern District of New York on August 20, demanding that MSFT and Discord identify the person or persons behind the "CyberLeek" persona. The leaks have now run six consecutive days.
The filings are unusually broad. Take-Two is seeking MachineGuid and Microsoft account device identifiers, registration and last-login IP addresses, phone numbers, linked Google and Xbox connections, and OneDrive contents for every account that posted in three named Discord servers since June 1. The Microsoft subpoena also asserts that copyrighted GTA 6 material was posted to GitHub, which Microsoft owns. Both subpoenas were filed by Kirkland & Ellis and carry a September 4 response deadline. Microsoft said it is working with Take-Two and Rockstar to protect intellectual property, and Discord said it reviews and complies with valid subpoenas as a matter of routine.
Market reaction was muted: Take-Two shares held near $239, suggesting investors read this as IP housekeeping rather than a threat to the release. A former Rockstar director publicly urged fans to stay calm, arguing the leak discourse is running ahead of what has actually been shown.
The thing to watch is not the subpoenas themselves but whether the leak cadence stops after the September 4 deadline. GTA 6's release timing is the single largest swing factor in Take-Two's forward bookings, so a leak campaign that persists into the marketing window matters more to the financial story than the identity of any one leaker. A contained leak lets Take-Two keep control of the reveal calendar; a continuing one could pressure the publisher to move up disclosures it would rather stage.
