Tech Earnings: Alphabet and Tesla's AI Trade in Focus
Alphabet and Tesla will report earnings this week, with investors eagerly awaiting updates on their AI investments and chip manufacturing capacities. Analysts are watching for any shifts in the companies' AI trading strategies. Key companies like Micron, AMD, and Nvidia are also poised for AI-driven growth.
The next two weeks bring the earnings prints that will test the AI capital-spending thesis directly: TSLA reports second-quarter results on July 22 after the close, and GOOGL follows on July 28. The framing question is no longer whether hyperscalers are spending, it is whether the revenue is arriving fast enough to justify the outlay.
The scale of that outlay is the reason the bar has moved. AMZN, Alphabet, META, and MSFT are collectively planning roughly $725 billion of AI capital expenditure in 2026, up about 77% year over year. For Alphabet specifically, the metrics that matter are Google Cloud revenue growth, which ran near 63% year over year in the first quarter of 2026, operating margin, and any revision to the capex guide. A strong cloud number paired with an unchanged capex figure would be the cleanest read; an increased capex guide without a matching acceleration in cloud would not.
Tesla's version of the same question is different in kind. Deliveries are already known, so the print turns on whether they were profitable, whether energy storage growth is durable enough to carry the story, and whether autonomy and robotaxi spending is starting to show measurable revenue rather than narrative progress.
The supply chain gives some advance signal. Memory has tightened materially, with MU and Samsung reportedly locking in long-term supply agreements with large cloud buyers, and AMD seeing demand driven by the same AI infrastructure buildout . That is consistent with capex being spent rather than merely announced, which raises rather than lowers the burden on these earnings reports to show returns.
