Tesla Surpasses Delivery Expectations with Record Q2 Performance
Tesla reported a 25% increase in Q2 deliveries, surpassing expectations. The company delivered 480,126 vehicles in the quarter, exceeding analyst estimates. Higher fuel prices boosted demand for electric vehicles, driving Tesla's success.
TSLA delivered 480,126 vehicles in the second quarter, up 25% year over year and the company's best-ever Q2, comfortably surpassing the prior mark of 466,140 set in Q2 2023. The total cleared Wall Street's consensus estimate of roughly 406,000 units by close to 74,000 vehicles, one of the widest delivery beats in Tesla's recent history.
Model 3 and Model Y accounted for the bulk of the quarter, with roughly 467,762 units delivered, while Model S, Model X, Cybertruck, and Semi combined for about 12,364 deliveries. The rebound was driven in large part by recovering demand in Europe, where new Model Y variants and, per some reports, higher fuel prices have sustained interest in electric vehicles.
The results give TSLA a data point in its favor after several quarters of declining annual deliveries, and arrive as the broader EV market works through a demand slowdown. Even so, the stock's initial reaction to the report was muted, a reminder that investors are weighing the quarter against tougher questions, including US demand following the recent expiration of federal EV tax credits and intensifying competition from Chinese rivals. Investors should watch upcoming margin guidance and US order trends to see whether the delivery strength carries into profitability.
