Tesla Says Austin Cybercab Fleet Tops 300 After 8x Jump in 30 Days, Dallas Next

Tesla's Robotaxi account said on X that it has "scaled to 300+ Cybercabs serving Austin," an 8x increase in 30 days and the first official Cybercab fleet number the company has published. Tesla AI software head Ashok Elluswamy said Dallas is coming "soon," and a Tesla AI engineer said Grok's agent bot is now enabled on all Cybercabs. Third-party trackers show fewer Cybercabs operating unsupervised, and an NHTSA audit query is pending.

TSLA said on Friday that it has "scaled to 300+ Cybercabs serving Austin," an 8x increase in 30 days, in a post from its Robotaxi account on X. Teslarati described it as the first official Cybercab fleet number Tesla has published. Public Cybercab rides in Austin began on Sept. 4.

Independent counts are lower. Texas vehicle registrations rose from 169 to 319, while RobotaxiTracker showed 275 unsupervised Tesla robotaxis in Austin, of which 105 were Cybercabs, according to Teslarati. The gap suggests the 300-plus figure describes the fleet Tesla has built and assigned to Austin rather than vehicles in simultaneous service.

Expansion and features are moving in parallel. Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla's head of AI software, replied "Dallas soon" when asked about the next market, without giving a date. Tesla AI engineer Yun-Ta Tsai posted that "Grok @bot is enabled on all Cybercabs and the rest of the Model Y fleet," an agent feature separate from the in-cabin Grok voice controls Tesla introduced in September. Starlink hardware is also integrated into the Cybercab, as Tesla confirmed earlier this year, and Elon Musk has said that "all cars will have Starlink in the future".

The ramp sets up Tesla's third-quarter report on Oct. 21, where investors will look for ride, mileage and unit-economics data behind the fleet claims. A regulatory checkpoint comes first: NHTSA has sent Tesla an audit query on the Cybercab's self-certification, with answers due Oct. 30. Tesla shares closed Friday at $382.70, up 2.1%.
