Trade Desk Resolves Ad-Tech Fee Dispute with Publicis, Shuffles Leadership
The Trade Desk resolved an ad-tech fee dispute with Publicis and announced changes to its leadership, including new executives.
TTD and Publicis Groupe resolved a billing dispute that had rattled the ad-tech sector since March, when a third-party audit commissioned by Publicis alleged that The Trade Desk had improperly applied platform fees and auto-enrolled clients in features without explicit approval. Publicis had advised clients to stop using TTD as a demand-side platform following the audit, a withdrawal that sent TTD shares down more than 13% in the days after the news broke. The settlement restored Publicis's recommendation of TTD, and shares gained more than 5% on the day the resolution was announced.
The two companies issued a brief joint statement saying they had addressed the differences identified in the Publicis audit, but neither party disclosed what changed, what was agreed, or how much of the disputed billing was at stake. That opacity leaves some uncertainty about whether the underlying commercial relationship is fully normalized or merely stabilized ahead of future scrutiny. The dispute itself had exposed a broader tension in the ad-tech ecosystem around fee transparency and DSP audit rights that extends beyond this single pair of companies.
Simultaneously, TTD named Sarah Gavin as Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President. Gavin previously served as chief communications officer and interim CMO at Zendesk, giving her experience straddling communications and marketing leadership at a high-growth B2B software company. The hire arrives as TTD works to rebuild client confidence in the wake of the Publicis dispute and accelerate its broader push into connected TV and retail media.
