Viasat Achieves 1,000 Aircraft Milestone for SB-S Service
Viasat has expanded its SB-S service to 1,000 aircraft, marking a significant milestone in expanding cockpit services.
VSAT announced that its SwiftBroadband-Safety (SB-S) cockpit service is now installed on 1,000 aircraft, a milestone underscoring accelerating airline adoption of satellite-enabled safety communications. SB-S is a secure broadband IP datalink for flight-deck operations and safety communications, delivering services over both traditional ACARS and next-generation IP connections.
Since its 2018 introduction, SB-S equipage has grown at an average rate of about 42% per year as airlines modernize cockpit communications to improve flight safety and save fuel. Viasat expects the service to reach more than 1,200 aircraft by the end of 2026, and its broader aviation safety portfolio, including the long-established Classic Aero service, now connects more than 12,000 cockpits globally.
Viasat shares jumped roughly 10% on the day, with the milestone landing alongside a reported $437 million Space Force contract and renewed investor interest in space and satellite names. The growth in recurring connectivity services is strategically important for Viasat as it works to diversify revenue and integrate its Inmarsat assets; investors will watch equipage momentum and contract wins as indicators of the aviation segment's trajectory.
