Zscaler slides 9% after chief revenue officer exit, analysts see limited disruption

Zscaler shares fell about 9% in early trading on Friday and closed down about 10% after the company said chief revenue officer Mike Rich is stepping down for personal reasons, effective October 1, with worldwide head of sales Ross Tackett succeeding him. Jefferies said the timing raises execution risk, while Mizuho raised its price target to $220 and kept an Outperform rating. Separately, Fastly fell about 6% after Citi questioned whether AI traffic pays off under its gigabyte-based billing.
ZS gapped down on Friday, opening at $206 after a $214.64 prior close and trading near $196 in the morning, a drop of about 9% . The selling persisted, and the stock finished the session down about 10.1% at $193.05. The trigger was the departure of chief revenue officer Mike Rich, who is stepping down for personal reasons effective October 1. Ross Tackett, Zscaler's worldwide head of sales, will succeed him .
The move was company-specific: the iShares Expanded Tech-Software ETF was down only about 0.1% . Jefferies said the timing raises execution risk, though Tackett helped shape the current sales strategy and management is not changing its go-to-market approach, which limits how much the handoff should alter day-to-day selling . Analysts largely held their ground. Mizuho raised its price target from $210 to $220 and kept an Outperform rating, and MarketBeat's tally shows a consensus Moderate Buy with a $219.28 average target .
The backdrop remains solid on paper. In its last report on September 3, Zscaler posted $1.19 in EPS against a $1.09 consensus on revenue of $898.19 million, up 24.9% from a year earlier, and it recently launched Agentic SOC, an AI security operations platform built with agents developed with Anthropic and OpenAI . In the same session, FSLY fell about 6% after Citi, keeping a neutral rating, argued that lightweight AI assistant queries generate few billable gigabytes under Fastly's pricing model .
What to watch: the October 6 investor day, where management is expected to lay out strategy and long-term targets, and any commentary on sales execution once Tackett formally takes the seat .
